Electrical Energy Storage Systems

Electrode- and cell preparation, characterization and module integration; power to X, electrolysis: The fitting storage solution for every opportunity.

Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EES) cover the wide field of systems that are able to convert electrical energy bidirectionally into another form. The EES team focusses on Lithium-based galvanic elements with research on solid ion conductors, phase boundaries and structures for metallic Li-anodes. Gloveboxes, vacuum furnaces and electrode coating equipment permit the production of specific cell components.

On system level, the focus of research is on energy density enhancement, electrical and thermal battery management and involved battery models. Ranging from fingernail-sized cells to battery modules for automotive use, different batteries can be tested and characterized.

The field of power to X (X = gas, liquid, solid) covers energy systems which can be understood as reserve batteries with a single charge step. The anodes can be separated, stored for an arbitrary time, and reassembled in a galvanic cell to provide energy afterwards. The ipv uses various power to X technologies in practical application.
