The day started with an insight into how a battery works. The students listened intently to the presentation given by PhD student Julia Pross-Brakhage from the Electrical Energy Storage Systems group.
After a brief refreshment of pretzels and tea, the topic was solar cells. Sofya Jerónimo Rendón, Thi Hue Nguyen and Martina Pesci, PhD students in the field of photovoltaics, talked about their careers and explained how a photovoltaic module converts sunlight into energy. As a final highlight, the fruit tea was put to another unusual use: The girls used it to make their own solar cells. We all agree: An exciting change from everyday school life!
ipv also participated on Science Day
Just a few weeks later, visitors were once again able to get a taste of lab life at the Science Day. In addition to two exciting tours of the institute, led by Prof. Michael Saliba and Andreas Pahler, the ipv offered experiments for interested young researchers. At the stand in front of the institute entrance, they successfully made and tested fruit tea solar cells and lemon batteries.
