High-Efficiency Solar Cells

Evaluation of different photovoltaic materials and development of highly efficient multi-junction solar cells

Our research targets the efficiency enhancement of photovoltaic power conversion. This includes the evaluation of different materials systems, and the development of tandem or multi-junction devices consisting of two or more solar cells (subcells). Each of these subcells absorbs a different part of the solar spectrum which enables theoretical cell efficiencies towards 40%. In collaboration with the groups “Industrial Solar Cells” and “Emerging Materials” we develop fabrication processes for highly efficient photovoltaic devices including multiple perovskite and/or silicon absorber layers.
