Helmholtz High Impact Award for Tandem Solar Cells

September 28, 2023

Together with Antonio Abate, Steve Albrecht and Eva Unger, ipv Institute Director Michael Saliba was honored with the Helmholtz High Impact Award. Michael Saliba and Eva Unger accepted the award on behalf of the entire team at the Helmholtz Annual Meeting in Berlin.

The multidisciplinary team led by the award winners is conducting research on tandem solar cells that generate electricity more efficiently by combining silicon with novel materials such as perovskites. The Helmholtz Association and the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany are honoring the four researchers with the first High Impact Award for their approach and research achievements.

"The team led by Steve Albrecht and Eva Unger impressively demonstrates the strength of the Helmholtz Association: it combines different disciplines and collaborates across center boundaries to address one of the greatest challenges of our time: the energy transition. With their unique expertise and innovative strength, the four scientists are making a decisive contribution to advancing and shaping cutting-edge research in the field of photovoltaics. I warmly congratulate this young international team on their well-deserved High Impact Award," said Helmholtz President Otmar D. Wiestler at the award ceremony.
